Frequently Asked Questions
What is She Is Me about?
▼
She Is Me is a collection of powerful personal stories written by women who have lived through prison and found new ways to understand freedom, identity, and self. It's not a book about crime — it's a book about humanity, transformation, and what becomes possible when women are given the chance to be seen as more than their worst moments.
Who is this book for?
▼
This book is for anyone who believes in second chances, justice with care, and the power of women's voices. It's for readers who value lived experience, storytelling that challenges stereotypes, and stories that stay with you long after you close the book. This book is also for women who are in prison across Australia.
Why is this book important?
▼
Women with lived prison experience are often spoken about, but rarely heard from. She Is Me hands the pen back. These stories challenge stigma, disrupt dominant narratives about incarceration, and invite readers to see freedom not as something granted by systems — but something reclaimed from within.
What does preordering the book support?
▼
Preordering She Is Me directly supports the work of Project:herSELF, a charity that works with women in prison and beyond. It also supports the buy one give one model – for every book purchased during preorder and launch week – we will donate one to a women's prison.
When will preorder copies be shipped?
▼
Preorder copies will be shipped March 4.
Will preorder customers receive anything extra?
▼
Yes. Preordering She Is Me helps make the project possible, and preorder supporters will receive early access to some of the book's content in the lead up to the launch.
Where is the book launch being held?
▼
The official She Is Me book launch will be hosted in Brisbane – Feb 27th, Sydney - March 5th, Melbourne – March 10th and Canberra – March 12th.
Do I need to preorder to attend the launch?
▼
Preordering is not required to attend the launch.
Will the authors be speaking at the launch?
▼
Yes. The launch will feature a panel discussion with contributing authors, offering audiences the rare opportunity to hear directly from the women whose stories shape the book.
Is She Is Me confronting or graphic?
▼
The stories are honest and emotionally real, but they are told with care and intention. While some themes may be challenging, the book centres resilience, growth, and humanity rather than shock or sensationalism.
How else can I support this project?
▼
Beyond preordering, you can support She Is Me by attending the launch, sharing the book with your community, recommending it to book clubs or workplaces, and helping amplify the voices within it. You can also donate to Project:herSELF – all donations over $2 are 100% tax deductible.
